SAFTAS 2014: The awards show blatantly lies to viewers over Favourite Soap voting as Muvhango is cut out; gets one soap's name wrong.
As in previous years the 2014 South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) continued its self-delusional sham of a Favourite Soap category, blatantly lying to viewers while imploring them to vote for their "favourite soapie".
This year if Muvhango on SABC2 was your real favourite soap you're simply not able to vote for it.
Muvhango and Word of Mouth Productions flat-out refused to enter the Saftas for this year.
And because shows are forced to enter for categories to be eligible for the so-called Favourite Soap category in which viewers' votes count, this year there is no Muvhango to choose.
It means a hollow win for whatever soap wins because the group is never complete since different broadcasters and soaps boycott and refuse to enter the Saftas every year its been held the past few years.
It is an outright lie to tell and ask viewers to vote for their Favourite Soap when they can't really vote for what might be their Favourite Soap - and it happens year after year after year.
It's just one of the huge problems impacting negatively on the credibility of this awards show run by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF).
Viewers could however vote for The Wild on M-Net. A soap which showed its last original episode more than a year ago on 28 March and produced its last original episode back in 2012!
Can somebody also please tell the National Film and Video Foundation, Clive Morris Productions and the producers and organisers that the soap is called Binnelanders and not Binneland.
For an awards show that purports to know, celebrate and honour South Africa's television industry, it is a shocking shame that it can't even get a soap's name right.
And the NFVF and the Saftas need to get with the programme and become credible and professional and have all possible, eligible soaps be included in the category regardless of whether shows enter.
