National Geographic Channel producing the factual channel's first TV drama series, Act of Valor.

National Geographic Channel (DStv 181) is producing the channel's very first scripted TV drama series, Act of Valor, based on the 2012 movie by the same name following American Navy seals.

Act of Valor will start production early next year and will revolve around para-rescuers, also known as PJ's, who are unsung heroes, helping with the recovery and medical treatment of people in humanitarian rescue and combat environments.

"With the incredible success of our original scripted feature films, we are expanding our offerings with a high quality scripted series we know will resonate with our viewers," says Howard Owens, National Geographic Channels president in a statement.

"After the success of our documentary series Inside Combat Rescue about PJs in Afghanistan, we wanted to tell more incredible stories of these heroes, and this series will allow us to do so in an exciting and dramatic way, while still delivering real, authentic stories our viewers expect from us,"

"With a powerful contemporary storyline of global anti-terrorism, Act of Valor is an intense, fast-paced series that will resonate with viewers worldwide," says Tim Halkin, the COO of Tandem, the Munich-based producer and distributor of the series.
