Mapi Mhlangu the new news editor of eNCA; Seamus Reynolds to continue as managing editor of the 24-hour TV news channel.
Mapi Mhlangu has been appointed as the news editor of eNCA (DStv 403) while Seamus Reynolds (which e.tv's publicity department spells as both Raynolds and Reynolds) will continue as managing editor after he's been overseeing both managing duties as well as the day-to-day news diary of the 24-hour South African TV news channel.
Seamus Reynolds took over as managing editor at eNCA earlier this year, but e.tv didn't announce it then and isn't elaborating now either as it announced Mapi Mhlangu's appointment.
Mapi Mhlangu was previously the head of news assignments at eNCA.
Patrick Conroy, who e.tv publicity isn't giving a job title in a press statement, is quoted as saying, "Mapi Mhlangu has a thorough understanding of eNCA's needs and a vision of what is required to maintain our dominance in the 24-hour news space."
"As the former head of assignments she set the news agenda and determined the direction stories should take. Her leadership in this role made her the obvious choice to replace Seamus Reynolds."
Patrick Conroy, who holds the position of group head of news at eNCA but strangely gets no job title in the e.tv press release, calls Seamus Reynolds a "tower of strength".
"Seamus now officially moves into the new role of managing editor which is an important new addition to our management structure. He has been doing both jobs for several months now without complaint. He has gotten us through some very tough times and I want to sincerely thank him for all he has done."
