How much of a fail was SABC3's bleh 15th birthday party for Isidingo with no-show big names from the cast and grumblings about the lack of food?
Make what you will of Isidingo's 15th birthday part at Katy's Place in Johannesburg this past week which comes across as a bit of a fail for the SABC3 soap.
Forget that neither SABC3 nor the show's publicist nor the publicists of the PR company could be bothered in the slightest to even tell several longtime South African TV critics and journalists and writers who've covered the soap over many years about the upcoming event before the time.
Forget the wooden chairs, the food problems and that the Isidingo 15th birthday menu looked suitable for a weight loss programme, according to reports.
Or that not a lot of Isidingo cast members attended and that those who showed, disappeared quickly.
Michelle Botes was nowhere to be seen - and press who attended noted the absence of Isidingo regulars such as Chris Beasley.
Read another report about the lack of food at Isidingo's 15th birthday bash, and the "minute portions" of the food fail which led to murmurs of dissatisfaction and jokes about people leaving for 24-hour fast food restaurants. Is that maybe why the stars disappeared?
"Dodged a bullet," laughs a longtime TV critic and soap writer to me, who didn't attend and like several others had no idea there was even going to be a party.
