Viacom International Media Networks Africa (VIMN Africa) responsible for MTV (DStv 130) says it is phasing in on-air changes to better the relevance and watchability of MTV for South African viewers.
MTV is introducing four localised music shows with South African artists who will now be included alongside international artists through Rock Chart (seen on Tuesdays at 16:40), Pop Chart (Mondays at 16:40) and the Dance Chart (Thursdays at 16:40).
South African artists will also feature from now on in the daily music strand New S**t which shows music videos on weekdays on MTV at 17:30.
"An investment in strong new shows, more localised content and flexible scheduling, sensntive to the local audience will ensure that MTV connects even more closely with our South African viewers and gives them a more satisfying and rounded entertainment experience," says Alex Okosi, the senior vice president and managing director of VIMN Africa.
VIMN Africa is also working on MTV Choice, a new weekly interactive magazine show for MTV which will be presented by a local celebrity.
The Valleys, a new reality show is starting on MTV on 15 July at 23:10, set in the city of Cardiff, Wales.
