SCHLOCK-SHOCK. Boa vs Python vs oh how sad we are South Africa: Snakes help lift e.tv to a massive ratings win.

You're reading it here first.

It's true. Like Phil and Claire in Modern Family who love B-grade schlock-fest films like Croctopus 3D, so South African viewers are apparently trash television resistant: The most watched thing on all of e.tv in week 9 of this year, was the 2004 horror B-grade movie Boa vs Python on Sunday 3 March.

I kid you not.

More popular than WWE Raw, more popular than the soap's Scandal! and Rhythm City or the Live Lotto Draw, was Boa vs Python with an AMR of a massive 12,1%.

That viewership figure - meaning that about 4,85 million people watched, is more than double even SABC3 most watched show that week (Days of Our Lives with a 5,7% AMR).

The terrible movie eclipses everything on SABC2 except for that channel's number one show and soap Muvhango (with a AMR of 12,4% viewership rating), and the viewing audience for Boa vs Python on e.tv was big enough to lure more viewers than what half of SABC1's most popular shows did in that week.

Now that's scary (and impressive).
