The writers of the weekly Fashion Police on E! Entertainment (DStv 124) have gone on strike; E! Entertainment calls the strike action "disappointing" in an internal memo but in a press release says Joan Rivers supports the writers' efforts to organise.
Twelve Fashion Police writers have decided to start striking immediately after a two week battle of saying they want to join the Writers Guidl of America (WGA) West, after working long hours overtime without pay. They have also filed a $1,5 million wage and wage and hours claims with the California courts.
"We're ready to go back to work on Fashion Police just as soon as they sign a WGA contract," says the writers in a statement. "Writers on E!'s comedy-variety show, Fashion Police, walked off their jobs today to gain Writers Guild coverage and to protest the company's unfair labour practices," says the WGA in a statement.
"We are disappointed that the WGA has called a strike and some of the Fashion Police writers have chosen to vacate their positions," says Suzanne Kolb, E! Entertainment president in an internal memo.
In a statement to the press E! Entertainment says Joan Rivers as the presenter and executive producer of Fashion Police supports the writers' efforts to organise.
"Joan Rivers has gone on record repeatedly that she supports the Fashion Police writers and wants a fair agreement for them," says E! Entertainment.
