SABC IN CHAOS & CRISIS. SABC board most likely to be dissolved as soon as possible following governance meltdown at the broadcaster.

SABC in chaos & crisis: What remains of the SABC board - only three members and no chairperson with which the SABC highest governing body can't make any decisions - will most likely be entirely dissolved as soon as possible.

Parliament's portfolio committee on communications which is tasked with oversight of the SABC either has to dissolve the remainder of the SABC board to quickly put in place a new one, or start the protracted and much longer process of slowly filling the nine vacancies following the massive meltdown after the spate of ongoing resignations at the embattled South African public broadcaster.

Eric Kholwane, the chairperson of parliament's portfolio committee confirms that the comittee will be meeting tomorrow.

On Tuesday the committee will discuss the dramatic and fast-developing implosion at the SABC which saw chairperson dr. Ben Ngubane and deputy chairperson Thami Ka Plaatjie quit last week, followed by six further resignations from SABC board members who have had enough of the conflict-riddled and public top echelon infighting at the SABC.

The minister of communications, Dina Pule, will also appear in parliament on Tuesday to answer about the shocking meltdown at the SABC, the biggest top executive, management and governance meltdown the public broadcaster has ever seen.

The conflict and crisis which created shockwaves was started when the SABC board decided three weeks ago to remove the matricless Hlaudi Motsoeneng as acting chief operating officer (COO).

After that dr. Ben Ngubane and Thami Ka Plaatjie quit when the remainder of the SABC board rebuked them. Then Dina Pule said Hlaudi Motsoeneng "remains" acting SABC COO, then the remainder of the SABC board said Dina Pule is wrong and that the decision to terminate Hlaudi Motsoeneng's tenure as acting COO "stands", then a further six SABC board members quit.

With the SABC board members Lumko Mtide, John Danana, Cedric Gina, Desmond Golding, Adv. Cawe Mahlati and Noluthando Gosa now also gone, it only leaves Suzanne Vos, Pippa Green and Claire McNeil as the sole remaining SABC board members who used to be 12.

The SABC is now functioning without any governing body.
