Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan coming to Animal Planet from Thursday 7 February at 22:00.

This is super quick: Very close after starting in America on the BBC America channel and in the United Kingdom on Channel 5, I can reveal that Animal Planet (DStv 183) has snagged the brand-new show Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan to start in South Africa on Thursday 7 February at 22:00 (South African time).

The actor and wildlife enthusiast Dominic Monaghan travels to remote corners of the globe in search of the biggest, scariest and rarest animals such as exotic insects and reptiles known to man. This week in America he told TV critics that Australia's "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin was his inspiration to just finally go ahead and do the show.

"I had said for a long time to a lot of people that I was going to make a nature show," Dominic Monaghan told TV critics. "After I got over the initial shock of him dying, I just thought, if this is not a reason for me to pick up the pieces now and make this show, I don't know what is."

"He meant a lot to me. I never got a chance to meet him or tell him that, but he meant a lot to me. I think he was a superb human being across the board. So there are elements of the show that in my way is a love letter to Steve Irwin, to what he achieved as a person."

In Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan viewers will see him travels to countries such as Namibia and Vietnam to find some of the world's most dangerous and elusive creatures.
