Oprah Winfrey has scored an exclusive interview with the disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong for her weekly talk show Oprah's Next Chapter and it is widely believed that he may finally admit to the queen of talk that he took performance-enhancing drugs - something he has never admitted during his cycling career.
In the interview set to be broadcast on 17 January in America on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network, Lance Armstrong will address the alleged doping scandal, years of accusations of cheating and charges of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout his cycling career.
Lance Armstrong has not done any interviews since he has been banned for life from cycling, unable to compete in events sanctioned by the US Anti-Doping Agency and the World Anti-Doping Agency, including triathlons.
On 4 January The New York Times, citing anonymous sources, reported that Lance Armstrong was apparently looking to make some kind of confession or admission, although his representatives said they're not aware of anything. That admission could now possibly come during the upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey in which he will break his silence about the scandal swirling around him.
South African viewers won't be able to see the high-profile interview since no South African broadcasters or any of the pay-TV channels available on MultiChoice's DStv or On Digital Media's TopTV has secured the broadcasting rights to Oprah Winfrey's highly-rated new weekly talk show which she started a year ago.
Last month the TLC channel seen on DStv and TopTV broadcast a once-off episode of Oprah's Next Chapter in which she interviewed pop star Justin Bieber. Another once-off documentary special about Winfrey and her private girl school in November 2012 on TLC saw a dramatic viewership rise for the channel in the timeslot.
