BREAKING. SABC cans pre-recorded interview on SABC3's Interface with cartoonist Zapiro.
Another day, another person seemingly banned from the SABC airwaves: the South African cartoonist Jonathan Shapiro, better known as Zapiro was interviewed by the SABC3 current affairs show Interface but the interview segment was not shown.
A month ago the SABC admitted that SABC editors and personnel were involved in blacklisting practices at the beleaguered South African public broadcaster. Two weeks ago three newspaper journalists were invited to an SABC radio programme for analysis, then at the last minute prevented from taking part because an ANC political party member was not present and a part of the panel.
The SABC's acting chief operating officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng has been instrumental in that decision and has also this week centralised control of all talk shows and current affairs shows on radio under the SABC's news division.
The SABC didn't respond to questions earlier in the week of what is happening with SABC television shows such as Interface which decided to can the pre-recorded Zapiro interview.
The SABC has not yet responded as to why the Zapiro interview was cancelled.
