BREAKING. Former SABC newsreader Christopher Dingle - and first presenter to say "f*ck' on South African television - has died, aged 66.


Christopher Dingle, a former SABC TV newsreader and the first person on South African television to utter the expletive "f*ck" has died in his home in Orange Grove, Johannesburg. Christopher Dingle was 66.

Christopher Dingle who was born in Zimbabwe was a well-known and beloved TV newsreader during the start-up days of television in South Africa and also presented shows such as Midweek, besides also doing radio presenting for the SABC.

Together with Dorianne Berry, Michael De Morgan and Charles Fortune, Christopher Dingle was for all intent and purposes television in South Africa and the iconic faces millions of viewers watched daily on TV1.

Christopher Dingle will also forever hold the dubious distinction as the first person on the SABC and by default South African television who said the word "f*ck" live on the air - highly agitated in the studio he was under the impression that he was off the air, but his expletive was heard in millions of South African TV households.

Christopher Dingle retired from broadcasting in 1990.
