BREAKING. Downton Abbey's third season to start in South Africa 'early in 2013' on BBC Entertainment as two stars visit South Africa.


The third series of Downton Abbey, the smash ITV drama, has been acquired by BBC Worldwide Channels for Africa and South Africa and will start on BBC Entertainment (DStv 120) "early in 2013" BBC Worldwide Channels revealed at its next showcase in Johannesburg.

The Downton Abbey stars Rob James-Collier (who plays Thomas Barrow) and Sophie McShera (who plays Daisy) are visiting South Africa and attended the next BBC Worldwide showcase for South Africa.

They took questions from the press at the BBC's new showcase for upcoming programming which included Johannesburg TV writers and TV critics only.

Ironically all of Cape Town's TV critics and writers covering television and writing nationally, as well as other prominent media and press from Durban, were in Johannesburg on Tuesday on the day of the BBC showcase since early the morning for the Idols finale on M-Net Tuesday evening.

BBC Worldwide Channels rushed to catch up with the rest of the world, and in on the Downton Abbey craze for South Africa. The first series of Downton Abbey was shown in South Africa since February and the second series started in July.

A specific starting date other than early 2013 for the third series of Downton Abbey, currently being shown in Britain, is not known.
