A+E Networks UK orders a first series of 8 episodes of a British version of the History channel's flagship series, Pawn Stars.

History (DStv 186) has ordered a British version of the channel's flagship series, Pawn Stars.

A+E Networks UK ordered the British version which will start production later this year and which will have British contestants and feature items of British heritage.

The first season of the British Pawn Stars will have 8 episodes and will be seen around the world as well as in South Africa in 2013 which gets the UK History channel feed. Leftfield Pictures is the production company.

"This commission establishes a new model whereby History channels around the world will own this phenomenal franchise extension," says Christian Murphy, the senior vice president for international programming and marketing at A+E Networks in a press statement.

"There is such depth and richeness in English history, that we felt marrying it with Pawn Stars was a natural extension of the brand," says Brent Montgomery, the owner of Leftfield Pictures and the executive producer of Pawn Stars. "We are confident that viewers, not just in the United Kingdom but in the United States and internationally, will find a British iteration of the show to be fascinating and very entertaining."
