Copper, a new crime drama set in 1860s New York, coming to South African viewers on TopTV's Fox towards the end of 2012.


Fox International Channels (FIC) will be bring the new TV drama Copper to South African viewers towards the end of the year on one of the Fox TV channels on TopTV when then new 10 episode first season kicks off globally in Africa, Europe, Australia and Latin America.

Copper is described as "a gripping crime series set in 1860s New York" and centres on Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones) as an intense, rugged, Irish immigrant cop working the city's notorious Five Points neighbourhood. His friends are he wayward son of a wealthy industrialist and an black doctor. The three men share a secret from their experience on the battlefield "that inextricable links their lives forever".

FIC says it will be the exclusive first window pay-TV broadcaster of Copper. The show is created by Tom Fontana who is also executive producer.

"Copper was always going to be special, but having the fantastic talents of Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson on board too gives Copper an extra layer of polish and sparkle," says Jason Simms, the senior viceo president of global acquisitions at FIC in a press statement.

"We're delighted to be working with Cineflix on this compelling, gritty and ambitious new series, and equally thrilled to bring it to our audiences in a diverse array of markets."
