Hlaudi Motsoeneng who doesn't have a matric certificate and never passed Grade 12 shocked South African's TV industry when SABC News put him on television in June when Henley Studios at the SABC housing the Isidingo sets burnt down and Hlaudi Motsoeneng said: "This is something we don't know how to handle it, but I think we will get there," and: "As SABC we're very shock. We're not expecting this. As you know, I mean, financially, we are not sound."
Today at the SABC's Auckland Park headquarters at a hastily arranged press conference, Hlaudi Motsoeneng was trotted out again - now saying that the SABC is suddenly fine, after he said in June that the SABC "financially, we are not sound".
"She [referring to SABC CEO Lulama Mokhobo] has turned the corner at the SABC. I know people are talking, but the reality at the SABC is that we have turned the corner. It is a different animal now," said Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
Hlaudi Motsoeneng said the SABC is in the process of changing contracted workers' current 12 month contracts to 3 year contracts in a bid to try and retain broadcasting and technical talent.
