Gerda Genis for Sarie
After presenting Voorblad on kykNET (DStv 111) for several seasons during the start-up of the Afrikaans TV channel a decade ago, Janie du Plessis is returning with a new talk show Wat Mense Sê, starting on Tuesday at 21:00.
"We live in a world in which we've been taught to scared of what people might say. We're silent about our fears and shame. We only share good news but that which matters and which hurts, that remains behind lock and key," says Janie du Plessis in a statement.
"I've seen with my own eyes what a difference awareness makes in people's lives and how freeing it is to talk about things that bother you, things about which people wonder and the things people have gone through. In my own life it took a terminal illness to force me to start talking openly and that most probably saved my life," says Janie du Plessis.
In Wat Mense Sê ordinary people will share extraordinary stories. "It is often stories that will inspire, people who - despite failure and setbacks in life, stood up again and continue. Stories of hope."
Carien Loubser is the director and says Janie du Plessis is the perfect person to be the talk show host. "She herself has lived through extreme highs and lows of life. I'm glad that I could persuade her to return to television after all these years. We're looking forward to the show since there's many stories to tell and its stories that will enrich lives."
The first episode of Wat Mense Sê will see Janie du Plessis interview the girl - now a woman - who escaped 22 years ago from the house of the pedophile Gert van Rooyen.
