BBC Worldwide which runs channels such as BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Knowledge and CBeebies in South Africa and Africa on MultiChoice's DStv pay TV platform published its annual review for 2011/2012 today, showing another year of strong growth in sales and profits driven by rising international exports.
BBC Worldwide announced an 8% rise in headline profits to £155 million, while the overall investment in programmes for distribution has risen by 6% to £99 million.
BBC Worldwide says the financial results marks another successful year "in taking great British content to the world" with international sales as a percentage of total profit increasing by 9 percentage points to 64%.
BBC Worldwide says its top selling programming brands are all BBC commissions: Top Gear, Doctor Who, Frozen Planet, Torchwood, Spooks, Sherlock, Planet Earth and Natural World which were all sold in over 100 markets.
"By offering world-class British programming and brands that resonate with global audiences, we were able to lift headline sales beyond a billion pounds for a fourth year in succession and deliver impressive results," says John Smith, the chief executive of BBC Worldwide in a press statement.
