Programming note: The second annual Big Cats Week coming to Nat Geo Wild from this coming Monday with a roaring list of documentaries.


The second annual Big Cat Week is coming to South African viewers on Nat Geo Wild (DStv 261) from this coming Monday, 13 February at 19:00.

Nat Geo Wild's first Big Cat Week last year was highly successful, prompting a repeat. The whole week from this coming Monday Nat Geo Wild will show multiple big cat documentaries in primetime.

Documentaries will range from cougars struggling to survive in America's Rocky Mountains and a pair of rare clouded leopard cubs rescued from poachers, to a wildlife mystery involving two of Africa's most majestic big cats: the lion and the cheetah.

Here's the list of special Big Cat Week documentaries next week on Nat Geo Wild:



Last Lions Monday, 13 February, 19:00
A film following a determined lioness ready to try anything — and willing to risk everything — to keep her family alive. The National Geographic explorers-in-residence Dereck and Beverly Joubert follow the epic journey of a lioness named Ma di Tau (''Mother of Lions'') as she battles to protect her cubs against a daunting onslaught of enemies in a desperate attempt to ensure their survival.

Clouded Leopards Tuesday, 14 February, 19:00
Clouded Leopards follows the work of wildlife photographer Sandesh Kadur and Wild Life Trust of India Vet Dr. Bhaskar Choudhury, as they undergo the unique rehabilitation of two orphaned Clouded Leopard cubs to their natural jungle habitat.

Leopards of Dead Tree Island Tuesday, 14 February, 20:00
Okavango Delta, this is prime habitat for Africa's most secretive big cat. Leopards normally avoid each other but this island is the common hunting ground for all three individuals as they are drawn together by the changing seasons and the movement of their prey.

American Cougar Wednesday, 15 February, 19:00
Over the last 10 years, life for cougars in Jackson Hole and the surrounding areas has drastically changed. Once the apex predator with little competition from other large carnivores, the cougars are now forced to share the landscape with other high level hunters like the wolves of Yellowstone and the growing grizzly bear population.
