South Africa's broadcasting regulator to review the country's outdated analogue broadcasting regulations.

South Africa's broadcasting regulator, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) is set to review the country's outdated analogue broadcasting regulations.

This will mean sweeping changes and major updates for the old legislation as South Africa gets ready to start the commercial phase of digital terrestrial television (DTT) from April, a process known as digital migration.

Icasa just announced that the regulator will be reviewing the existing analogue broadcasting regulations ''to be in line with the digital era''. The regulator says an update to the analogue regulations are necessary ''as a result of the transition to digital terrestrial television''.

Icasa will be holding public workshops in several provinces between now and March with stakeholders within South Africa's broadcasting sphere.
