SABC2 dumping it entire 19:30 primetime lineup for the whole week for a repeat of the documentary Have You Heard from Johannesburg?
SABC2 is dumping its 19:30 primetime lineup for the entire week from tomorrow, Monday 2 January, for a repeat broadcast in primetime of the pro-ANC, 7 part documentary series Have You Heard from Johannesburg? and another 7 hours of ANC centenary celebrations this upcoming weekend.
SABC2 first showed Have You Heard from Johannesburg?, produced by Clarity Films and Connie Field, in September 2010. SABC2 is now showing it again this entire week from Monday with one episode per day. The SABC corporately, and SABC2 as a TV channel are heavily hyping the 7 part documentary series with a myriad of promos in heavy rotation on the channel and a press release from the public broadcaster.
The documentary series is a precursor to the SABC's planned live television coverage of the ANC's ''ANC 100 Years Centerary Celebrations'' on Sunday 8 January for 7 hours: 5 hours on SABC2, and another 2 hours on SABC1.
The SABC says in a statement ''we are excited as the SABC that we will be beaming these celebrations right into our loyal viewers' homes''. The SABC says ''this will necessitate a few schedule changes due to the flighting of these documentaries. Popular primetime shows 50/50, Ersfsondes [sic], Pasella, America's Got Talent, Noot vir Noot and Gospel Classics will be affected by this.''
''I would like to encourage the viewers to watch this documentary as it is interesting, gripping, and mind blowing and not forgetting to watch both our news broadcasts and the concert,'' says Hlaudi Motsoeneng, the SABC's acting group CEO in the statement.
From Monday 2 Janaury until Friday 6 January at 19:30 SABC2 is dumping 50/50, Erfsondes, Pasella, America's Got Talent and Noot vir Noot. On Saturday 7 January and Sunday 8 January at 20:00 SABC2 is dumping the Saturday episode of America's Got Talent and Gospel Classics on Sunday.
On Sunday 8 January SABC1 will show the ANC's Centenary Concert at 20:00, dumping the movie Honey that was scheduled.
According to the SABC the ANC's Centerary Concert will include artists like Zahara, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Simphiwe Dana, AKA, Judith Sephuma, Liquideep, Jonas Gwangwa, Dorothy Masuka, Caiphus Semenya, Hugh Masekela, Vusi Mahlasela and Ray Phiri.
