Al Jazeera (DStv 406 / TopTV 401) is opening a brand-new Chicago news bureau the Qatar based 24 hour news channel broadcasting from the Middle East, has announced.
Al Jazeera is beefing up its American operations and coverage and part of that is opening new bureaus such as in Chicago, which will start with news gathering and reporting from December.
Al Jazeera is also adding three news correspondents to the news network. John Hendren was the White House correspondent for America's ABC TV network. Andy Gallacher from the BBC joins Al Jazeera's news bureau in Miami. Alan Fisher joins Al Jazeera's Washington news bureau as senior correspondent from his previous post in London.
Once Al Jazeera's news bureau in Chicago opens next month, the news network will have five bureaus in America with a staff of more than 150 people.
