Programming note: Defining Moments 2011, a one hour TV special looking back at the year, coming to CNN International on 3 December.

A one hour special, Defining Moments 2011, is coming to CNN International (DStv 401) on Saturday 3 December at 15:00 (South African time) which will be looking back at 2011 and this tumultuous year in iconic images.

I'm told that CNN International is busy sourcing a selection of still photography taken in 2011 - one of the most tumultuous news years in memory, ranging from the Arab Spring spreading to Egypt, the Japan earthquake and tsunami, the Royal Wedding, the Libyan uprising, Norway's terror attack and the current Eurozone crisis.

CNN will be collecting and showing a set of strong and impactful photographic images om cnn.com where it will be displayed as ''A Year In News Before Your Eyes''.

Viewers will also be able to tune in to the TV special Defining Moments 2011 on Saturday 3 December.

''With unprecedented access and incomparable global reach, the network has brought fast, accurate and impartial reports live from the frontline,'' says CNN International. ''In Defining Moments 2011, CNN reflects on this historic and dynamic year, from the death of Osama Bin Laden months before the tenth anniversary of September 11 to the slow disintegration of the Eurozone, the terror attacks in Norway, bombings in Moscow and the ongoing widespread famine in East Africa.''

The global news channel says Defining Moments 2011 will ''take viewers on a journey, remembering a year of stories that had audiences all over the globe glued to their screens. Go back inside Moammar Gadhafi's compound on the day Tripoli fell. Relive the moment Prince William married Kate Middleton. Look back at the launch of NASA's last space shuttle as it headed skyward for the final time, and reflect on the devastation that followed some of the worst floods parts of Australia, Brazil and Thailand have experienced for decades.''

Defining Moments 2011 invites viewers to look back on a year that will stay in the collective memory for a long time. Defining Moments 2011 will be shown on Saturday 3 December at 15:00 (South African time) and 21:00; with repeats on Sunday 4 December at 12:00 and Monday 5 December at 05:00 and 21:00.
