BREAKING. Richard Waghorn gone as SABC loses its chief technology officer; Gelfand Kausiyo set to take over.


In an extremely surprising move Richard Waghorn is leaving the SABC as the South Africa public broadcaster's chief technology officer.

Richard Waghorn whose total remuneration package at the SABC was R3,74 million for the year as stated in the recently released, latest SABC report for 2010/2011 is leaving the SABC. He resigned.

Richard Waghorn has been heading up the SABC's digital migration project and the impending switch-over from analogue to digital broadcasting. The SABC is envisioning 18 digital TV channels for digital terrestrial television (DTT) for South Africa.

The SABC has made no public announcement about Richard Waghorn's departure, who joined the SABC in March 2009.

The SABC confirmed to TV with Thinus that Richard Waghorn has resigned and is leaving the corporation. ''Yes. He resigned a long time ago. He is serving a notice till the end of the month,'' said Kaizer Kganyago, SABC spokesperson.

Kaizer Kganyago said that an announcement regarding who's taking over from Richard Waghorn will me made after his departure. ''We have already advertised the position.''

The SABC in a statement said that ''we are very grateful for his contribution and we wish him well in what he is going to do.''

It's generally understood that Gelfand Kausiyo, the SABC's general manager for broadcast fascilities will be taking over from Richard Waghorn.
