AfricaCast 2011: Africa's media giants should work together to create an African Broadcasting Academy supported by all broadcasters.

The African TV industry, the entire television community on the continent, needs to come together and work together to create the African Broadcasting Academy - a centre of broadcasting excellence to support, promote, and strengthen Africa's television broadcasting industry.

So says Nanda Armoogum, the director of broadcast content at the Independent Broadcasting Authority of Mauritius. Nanda Armoogum was speaking at the AfricaCast 2011 TV summit in Cape Town, taking place with the 14th AfricaCom conference.

Nanda Armoogum worked at the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation for 27 years and Mauritius will have 80% digital terrestrial coverage (DTT) by the end of this year, with 17 TV channels being broadcast on DTT.

''Africa's media giants should work together,'' he said, ''to ensure that Africa don't fall behind.'' An African Broadcasting Academy should be created Nanda Armoogum said, for Africa, and supported by all broadcasters.
