Cartoonito, the new daily preschool kids' programming block, will start on Wednesday on Boomerang on DStv.

You're reading it here first.

Cartoonito, the new preschool kids programming brand from Turner Broadcasting which I told you about RIGHT HERE in April is coming to South Africa, is finally starting on Wednesday with a daily dedicated preschool programming block on Boomerang (DStv 302) in South African and the rest of Africa.

Cartoonito that was originally supposed to start at the beginning of September in Africa and South Africa (and when I followed up had many many PR people not knowing why I suddenly asked about from the end of August and during September), is now starting on Wednesday 12 October. Cartoonito will be the preschool introduction to Turner Broadcasting's Boomerang and Cartoon Network channels. Cartoonito started in May 2007 in Britain.

Turner Broadcasting describes Cartoonito as an ''exciting new entertainment destination for preschoolers aged three to six and their parents''. Cartoonito will start to run as a daily block on Boomerang on MultiChoice's DStv with Bananas in Pyjamas as one of the programming block's signature shows. Also forming part of the debut line-up of Cartoonito is Jelly Jam, a new 3D animation show.

"We're excited to be making such a big splash in the preschool market, with the launch of Cartoonito in Africa,'' says Michael Carrington, Turner Broadcasting's chief content officer. ''Cartoonito is set to delight audiences in Africa as a hub of fun and imaginative entertainment for preschoolers and their parents."

(The rest of the press release that Cartoonito will issue today will just be the exact same rehashed quotes from April served up completely unchanged by the PR company and again attributed to Michael Carrington.)

Cartoonito will use six animation characters as continuity presenters called Lolly, Bubble, Cuba, Spike, Ting and Ringo.
