BREAKING. SABC visited by parliament's portfolio committee for communications; SABC says more government support needed.
Parliament's portfolio committee for communications visited the beleaguered South African public broadcaster today at the SABC's headquarters in Auckland Park ahead of the SABC board appearing in front of the committee again in Cape Town on Tuesday 16 August again.
Members of parliament met with SABC employees as well and issues raised ranged from new technology, budget constraints, salaries and the SABC's funding model.
'' As you know there is some critical issues about our financial issue, and they need to know because we are a public broadcaster,'' said Hlaudi Motsoeneng of SABC stakeholder relations. ''We don't have massive budget like opposition media. Government need to come on board to help if we are to fulfill the mandate of public broadcaster.''
