BREAKING. Al Jazeera correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin leaving Al Jazeera to join NBC News; will appear on MSNBC from September.

In a massive blow for Al Jazeera (DStv 406 / TopTV 401) the Arabic 24 hour news channel's best correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin who, in April was singled out by TIME magazine as one of the most influential people in the world is leaving Al Jazeera to join NBC News where he will also be seen on MSNBC (TopTV 410) from September.

Ayman Mohyeldin will be based in the Middle East for NBC News where he will be contributing to all of the company's platforms and networks which includes MSNBC.

''Ayman has a great deal of experience in various newsrooms covering major conflicts, and we think he will be an excellent addition to our team of correspondents,'' says NBC News in a statement.

Ayman Mohyeldin covered the Egyptian revolution earlier in the year and the fall of the Mubarak regime was recognized and praised for its distinction around the world.
