Some of the information I've been sitting on from since before last week regarding MultiChoice's upcoming DStv BoxOffice video-on-demand (VOD) service, is that DStv BoxOffice will go live with its commercial service from Friday 22 July and offer two payment methods.
I broke the news RIGHT HERE last month that DStv BoxOffice will launch in July.
Subscribers to a bouquet on DStv who will have to register for the VOD service (as I've said in the previous story already), will be able to order and then pay for movies through a DStv BoxOffice account or by credit card. These will be the only payment options available at launch.
Information regarding the names of movies, the number of movies, the update cycle of the selection list and the cost of the movies I've decided not to write about for now. Yes. Sorry. The DStv BoxOffice launch date and payment options however were on the very verge of becoming known to other industry journalists too.
Here is however what I have no idea of, haven't yet seen, and have made no attempt to find out regarding DStv BoxOffice: how the user-interface looks and works and whether the movies are also automatically downloaded to the PVR hard drive like other DStv on Demand content. I also don't know how the logo looks at all, and I'm wondering whether bought content can be pulled over and ''saved'' in the way Sky Movies Box Office allows if you know you've bought a movie and that the time restriction is going to run out but you haven't watched it yet.
Since SouthTel is launching a trial version of their VOD service called VOD.TV in July as well, what this actually means is that both MultiChoice and SouthTel will be going head to head in an exciting video-on-demand roll-out simultaneously later this month.
