BREAKING. Russia Today (RT) launches a new spin-off 24 hour documentary channel, RTDoc.
The 24 hour, English, news channel Russia Today (RT) (DStv 405) has just launched a spin-off documentary TV channel RTDoc.
RTDoc also broadcasts for 24 hours in English and it will be interesting to see whether MultiChoice for DStv or On Digital Media (ODM) for TopTV will try to add this actually available for free channel feed to their respective bouquets.
RTDoc just launched and is available as a so-called ''open signal'' on satellite, making it immediately available to 120 households across Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa on the Hotbird satellite. DTDoc plans to broadcast exclusive documentaries produced by RT which will include films that have won international prizes and recognition, as well as documentary TV series.
''Pay TV operators welcome documentary content in their networks because it remains invariably popular with audiences. Viewers tire of dynamic news streams and switch to ethnographic and educational formats,'' says Margarita Simonyan, RT's editor in chief. ''We're launching a new documentary channel about Russia exactly for the purpose of giving the viewer this alternative.''
Viewers can watch RTDoc online where the channel feed is live streamed at http://rtd.rt.com/ (click ''On Air'').
