SIDENOTE. Have a fun function MultiChoice and CNN. Just please don't send me the press release afterwards.

Not that I ever expect to be invited anywhere really, but for the first time since 2005 I've not been invited to the annual CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards 2011 - a competition sponsored by a broadcaster and a TV platform honouring journalists and journalism on this continent. Quite a snub and right back at you.

Good journalism and especially at the nexus where journalism and television combines like the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards is something I've always regarded as very important and wanted and enjoyed covering as a journalist.

The past numerous years besides covering the event exhaustively, I've actually enjoyed covering it. I've written about it as comprehensively and as much as I could because I thought it worthy. The event usually have speakers and forums that share interesting insights on where Africa, journalism on the continent, and even the broadcasting industry is evolving to and the issues they're grappling with.

MultiChoice and CNN was fine issuing press releases for the 2011 competition but sadly nobody could even say something like ''please write and keep writing about this, but we want to tell you that you don't matter beside that''. As Ive said, absolutely at your discretion and your choice as to what press, and whom, you invite and who you don't.

Just please, MultiChoice, don't send me a press release with a list of winners and drop-in quotes this Saturday night.
Not. Interested.
