BREAKING. The Top Billing Presenter Search is set to return to SABC3 next year; this time as a separate 13 episode reality show.
You're reading it here first.
I can exclusively break the news that the surprisingly delightful and dramatic Top Billing Presenter Search will be back in 2012 on SABC3. It will hopefully - since the deal hasn't been signed yet according to sources - become its own stand-alone reality show that ties in to the main weekly Top Billing glamorous magazine show on Tuesdays.
The Top Billing Presenter Search of 2010 saw Simba Mhere win who've since joined the longrunning and popular magazine show as a permanent presenter. The competition was a regular insert over a series of weeks within Top Billing. It was however the few separate Top Billing Presenter Search half hour episodes with additional dramatic and behind-the-scenes footage that was broadcast over the course of a few weekends on SABC3 that became a surprising hit with viewers and liked by critics.
Now various sources are telling TV with Thinus that a new Top Billing Presenter Search is planned and is definitely on the cards for 2012 - one which according to people knowledgeable about the situation, will see it become its own stand-alone 13 part TV show on SABC3. Like in 2010 there will again be inserts within the main Top Billing weekly show tracking the nationwide competition, but the concept will expand into more broadcasting TV time as a separate 13 part series.
Viewers who want to try out for a chance to be a Top Billing presenter will again have to face various talking and adventure challenges ranging from zip gliding to scuba diving and cooking demonstrations while trying to ''present'' what they're doing under usually gruelling circumstances as a fun insert. The half hour episodes of 2010 had all the hallmarks of a deftly produced reality show that made for high drama and entertaining viewing as contestants didn't battle it out for money but for an even bigger prize: to become a TV presenter and which saw them going to incredible lengths to compete against each other.
