An interesting fact with Sky News that's now being ''sold'' by News Corp. (News Corp. will retain a 39% minority stake so that it can buy BSkyB) is that Sky News, the 24 hours British news channel on DStv, is actually a loss making operation.
Sky News actually runs at a loss of R224,4 million per year. Rupert Murdock who owns News Corp. and up till now Sky News has now promised to keep Sky News around once it only has a 39% interest in it, for at least 7 to 10 more years.
The Royal Television Society has named Sky News the best news channel in Britain for the second consecutive year, but of course the danger is now that Sky News will become damaged as a brand once it loses the funding and primary support from News Corp. that simply absorbed these losses of millions of pounds from Sky News every year.
