BREAKING. Parliament approves the names of the four new SABC board members as well as Icasa board members.

South Africa's parliament has approves the names of 4 new SABC board members, as well as the names of 2 board members for the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) of which one will be chosen. From the national assembly, the names of the SABC candidates now go to president Jacob Zuma for final endorsement.

This means that Dr Sethe Patricia Makhesha, John Sembi Danana, Adv Cawekazi Benedicta Mahlathi and the controversial Lumko Caesario Mtinde will definitely become the 4 new SABC board members replacing David Niddrie, Barbara Masekela, Felleng Sekha and Makgatho Mello who all resigned last year after bitter in-fighting between the SABC board and the SABC board chairperson dr Ben Ngubane.

Parliament also approved the names of Nomonde Pearl Gongxeka and Dr Marcia Socikwa for the board of Icasa with one of them that will be chosen in terms of the Icasa Act by the department of communications to fill the one vacant position. That choice will then go back to parliament for final approval.
