A crazy rumour is doing the rounds that the talk show host will be going to Egypt to record an episode there on a Friday in the future at Tahrir Square. Tonight ran with the false report in South Africa that the AFP news agency took from an Egyptian newspaper and it's probably elsewhere by now too.
''It's not true,'' a Harpo spokesperson tells me after I just asked. According to the rumour Oprah Winfrey was invited to do a show from Tahrir Square on a Friday in March according to Egypt's Al-Ahram newspaper quoting Egypt's new tourism minister.
''Reports about The Oprah Winfrey Show taping a future episode in Egypt are untrue. There are no plans for Ms Winfrey or the show to broadcast from an international localtion before the program's finale in May.''
The Oprah Winfrey Show on SABC3 will have Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling as the guest in Monday's episode.
