After 11 days and counting, SABC3 still has no response on the dramatics behind the scenes at its Isidingo soap.
While the set of SABC3 soap Isidingo is a ''melting pot of anger'', the broadcaster - 11 days since my first media enquiries - has still not responded to cast any light on the situation of what is happening with disgruntled actors who no longer have permanent contracts.
After specific questions regarding the tense on-set situation and specific questions for the broadcaster, SABC3 promised a press release. The broadcaster also said that it will answer specific questions related to what has been happening behind the set at the tumultuous soap. Eleven days later SABC3's marketing and publicity division has not said as much as a word and refuse to answer any questions about the backstage Isidingo drama.
Several longtime Isidingo actors have been jettisoned from their permanent cast member status to become ''on call'' actors, meaning they'll be used less and will only be paid for the number of scenes they appear in. They're not happy. SABC3 thinks the Endemol SA produced soap that has the TV industry talking, is going to go away if they go ostrich about it, don't talk, and put their head in the ground. SABC3 isn't answering questions about Isidingo's viewership numbers, the unhappy actors, why actors were moved to ''on call'' status, or explaining what is going on behind the scenes.
