Programming note: Wikileaks documentary on Discovery next weekend; WikiLeaks debate on BBC World News this weekend.

Two interesting WikiLeaks programmes to tell you about - the one happening this weekend, and the second one broadcast next weekend.

The image above of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange comes from an exclusive documentary Wikileaks: War, Lies and Videotape that will be broadcast on the Discovery Channel (DStv 121) on Sunday, 13 February at 21:50. The documentary is by directors Paul Moreira and Luc Hermann and distributed by Zodiac Rights, Paris, and this utterly compelling piece of television investigates the website that has given rise to one of the greatest controversies – one which is far from over: how much information can the world handle? Julian Assange is interviewed about the motives of WikiLeaks, as well as WikiLeaks journalists who are fighting for transparency and challenging secrecy.

''Making the film was extremely complex for Paul and I, at the most basic level in terms of getting close to Julian Assange and his team,'' says Luc Hermann. ''We had to travel to London twice without a camera to convince them to talk to us on film.'' WikiLeaks: War, Lies and Videotape also includes an interview with former number two and spokesperson of the WikiLeaks team Daniel Domscheit-Berg before he opens his own whistle-blowing website and publishes a novel about ''his time at the world's most dangerous website''.

This weekend BBC World News (TopTV 400 / DStv 400) has its next TV debate in its Doha Debates series also focusing on WikiLeaks in The Doha Debates: Is the World Better Off without WikiLeaks? which is shown tomorrow, Saturday, 5 February at 11:10 and repeated Sunday at 04:10 and 17:10.
