Last year kykNET (DStv 111) - in collaboration with e.tv's eNews division supplying it - the Afrikaans general entertainment channel introduced a weekday Afrikaans news bulletin eNuus of a half hour daily at 19:00 and over the past few months eNuus has been growing its Afrikaans viewership.
''It's working extremely well for kykNET,'' says Lani Lombard, M-Net's communications manager. ''More and more Afrikaans viewers are watching the news at 19:00 on kykNET on eNuus than on other channels.''
''Looking at the DStv total Afrikaans audience, in that timeslot before the start of eNuus last year, 45% of Afrikaans viewers with DStv watched kykNET at 19:00. With eNuus now in that timeslot it has grown to 54%. In terms of Afrikaans viewers on DStv that's quite a lot of growth.''
