The weekday soap The Bold & the Beautiful on SABC1 at 18:00 gets a brand-new opening theme later today in America - only the third in its entire history (which South African viewers will see in about a year from now since that's how far we're behind) - and which was done entirely with green screen digital technology, a first for a soap in the world.
From the original pink and purple in the eighties to the current red white and black, The Bold & the Beautiful main title sequence's logo will be changing to white and blue. The basic theme music is still there but also gets spruced up by a piano and jazz melody while models walk on a runway at an evening fashion show, with all of the major soap characters attending and several sitting in the audience or standing around.
Late last year the producers at The Bold & the Beautiful and CBS Digital started lining out the idea for conpletely new concept for a new main opening title sequence for the soap using the latest in cutting-edge technology and digital effects. They wanted to create for The Bold & the Beautiful the ultimate fashion show within a digitally created, virtual setting.

After the concept was approved and storyboarded it was onto production day. Models walked against a green screen, a few people sat in the audience who were multiplied to hundreds, and the cast were filmed against a green screen as well.
Digital artists ''inserted'' them all into the auditorium with the runway and the end result is a new main title sequence that looks sophisticated, dramatic and spectacular.
This is how the brand-new main title sequence starts - a window at the back looking out on the nightscape silhouette of Los Angeles where The Bold & the Beautiful is set. A camera pans backwards to suddenly show models walking out onto a runway and a piano instrumental theme song starts to play.
Then we start to see the main cast and other familiar characters of The Bold & the Beautiful - standing, or sitting in the front row of the fashion show, or looking down from adjacent balconies.
After all the characters have been introduced, the camera pans further to the back and up at the opposite side of the auditorium from where everything started and move, outward as if through a window to end with the new white and blue main title of The Bold and the Beautiful.
