BREAKING. Oh the horror! M-Net fined R5 000 for horrible promo containing violence during family time.
M-Net has been fined R5 000 by the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) for showing a promo advertising a horror festival containing scenes of violence and horror during family time.
M-Net apologized and attributes the screening of scenes containing violence and horror around 18:00 on 13 October 2010 to an ''internal error''. ''The promo contains scenes from several horror titles. After viewing the promo, our internal classification team issued a directive that the promo should only be scheduled after 21:30,'' says M-Net. ''The broadcast of the promo at 18:00 on 13 October was a result of an error by the promo scheduler who did not adhere to the internal directive.''
According to the BCCSA who received complaints, the advertisement contained graphic scenes of violence and horror ''and other inexplicable scenes of horror'', ruling that children would be negatively affected by such images.
