Programming note: e.tv hangs ten with new two-part documentary about Zulu surfers.
Surfs up! e.tv will debut a new local two-part documentary, Zulu Surf Riders on Sunday, November 21 at 18:30 on the channel chronicling the water adventure of some of the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast's Zulu surfers.
The inspiring Zulu Surf Riders, produced by video producers Carlos Francisco and Andre Cronje, follows the story of twins Cyril and Mishak Mqade who lives in Umzumbe, the epicentre of the black surfing community in the province where Zulu surfers tackle the big waves.
''Zulu Surf Riders shows the triumphant spirit of the men and boys of Umzumbe,'' says Zanele Mthembu, the group head of e.tv's content production division. ''They pursue their passions in spite of tremendous hardships and continue to change perceptions of this sport and their communities. As a channel we are proud to bring their inspiring endeavours to our viewers.''
The first part of the doccie introduces the surfers and traces their journey to where they are today, looks at the growth of surfing as a sport in the Zulu community and how Cyril Mqade became the first ever black South African Springbok surf judge. The second part of Zulu Surf Riders that will be broadcast on Sunday, November 28, will examine the mentorship role of the Mqade twins as surf champions within the Umzumbe community.
