The SABC2 drama Hopeville as well as the South African actress Lerato Moloisane from the SABC1 drama Home Affairs have been nominated for International Emmy awards.
Hopeville that tells the story of an alcoholic father (Themba Ndaba) who tries to win the love his son (Junior Singo) by fixing the local swimming pool. Lerato Moloisane played Katlego in Home Affairs that's produced by Penguin Films. Hopeville and Lerato Moloisane are the two South African contenders out of 39 nominees from 15 countries who will compete in the 10 categories of the International Academy of Arts & Sciences for TV shows made outside of America.
Hopeville was produced by Heartlines and SABC Education and was directed by John Trengrove. The cinematographer was Willie Nel and Karel Flint was the art director. The winners will be announced on November 22 at the 38th International Emmy Awards in New York that will be hosted by the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Jason Priestley.
''Hopeville was one of our most difficult projects, we often found ourselves under tremendous pressure while working on this production so we are extremely happy that is has reached this stage,'' says Pontsho Makhetha, the head of SABC Education's public information and social development unit.
