BREAKING. Support Public Broadcasting (SOS) on resignation of SABC board member Barbara Masekela: ''We are greatly saddened''.

You're reading it here first.

I have the first official reaction from the Support Public Broadcasting (SOS) public pressure group on the shocking news of the resignation of SABC board member Barbara Masekela with the SOS telling me ''we are greatly saddened''.

''Barbara Masekela was one of the people the independent producers and SOS put forward for the new SABC board,'' says the SOS. ''We felt that Barbara Masekela would bring gravitas, skills and expertise, particularly from an arts and culture perspective. We are greately saddened that Barbara Masekela has decided to resign. However one of the positive things that has come out of this is that the SABC oversight structures have finally sat up and taken note of how serious the crisis is.''

''Hopefully we will now see some speedy action on the corporate governance breaches that have been left unattended for such an extended period,'' says the SOS.
