BREAKING. Carte Blanche turns 22 in September; will turn directing of its live birthday episode over to viewers.

You're reading it here first.

I can be the first journalist covering television to tell you that M-Net's long-running and award-winning Sunday night investigative magazine show Carte Blanche will be turning 22 years old in September and will be celebrating its birthday episode by turning its directing and choice of inserts over to viewers.

''Viewers will get to choose which inserts run on Carte Blanche's anniversary episode celebrating the 22nd birthday of the show,'' M-Net tells me. The shape and look of the Carte Blanche episode on Sunday, September 12 at 19:00 will be determined by viewers and fans of the show who have to become a fan of Carte Blanche on Facebook or Twitter. In a popularity contest by utilizing popularity polls through these social media, viewers will choose what they want to see in the birthday episode and essentially get to direct Carte Blanche.

''We're turning 22 and to celebrate we want you to help us direct our birthday broadcast live,'' Carte Blanche says on its official M-Net website. ''It'll be a lot of fun and we'll be doing something fairly unique.''
