What's the most fascinating show at - or is it inside - the SABC at the moment? Say hello to The Bob and Bobo Show! I can reveal the secret nicknames of the SABC chairperson dr. Ben Ngubane and the SABC's group CEO Solly Mokoetle who has apparently become the laughing stock of a large number of staffers at the South African public broadcaster who are just shaking their heads at the daft twosome.
According to longtime SABC insiders who spilled the goss, when workers talk about the once highly-respected dr. Ben Ngubane, they now use the word ''Bob'' after Robert Mugabe, president of Zimbabwe. I'm told it's all because of the unilateral way that dr. Ben Ngubane ordered Solly Mokoetle to ''appoint'' Phil Molefe as the new head of news - a decision the SABC board immediately recinded and declared ''null and void'' after an emergency meeting. Solly Mokoetle is apparently referred to as ''Bobo'' when workers are sharing news or a laugh about him in code talk within the corridors of Auckland Park where the walls have ears. Bobo is apparently the Bobo character from the very popular SABC1 youth drama Yizo Yizo who caused mayhem wherever he went, was somewhat out of touch with reality, faced severe temptations and is known for crazy and very erratic behaviour.
This is too crazy but true, and ranks right up there when I broke the news last year that SABC staffers were told to please drink less milk in their coffee and tea as part of cost-cutting measures at the SABC.
