BREAKING. SABC officially appoints its acting head of news Phil Molefe to a fixed five year term.

You're reading it here first.

The SABC has appointed the public broadcaster's acting head of news, Phil Molefe, permanently in the position for a fixed term of five years.

Last Monday I was first RIGHT HERE to tell you that after longer than a year since the SABC gave its previous head of news dr. Snuki Zikalala the boot, the broadcaster has still not made a new permanent appointment. Then the rest of the press picked it up, and now the SABC has permanently instated Phil Molefe in the position as the SABC's group executive for news and current affairs for five years.

''The SABC board and I are happy that this matter has been brought to finality as promised,'' says Solly Mokoetle, the SABC's group CEO, ''as this was a key vacant position that needed to be filled in order to stabilise the corporation. The appointment of Phil Molefe will go a long way in moving the news and current affairs division forward.''

Up until now Phil Molefe has been the general manager for international affairs at the SABC and been the acting head of news. Previously he was the head of TV news and current affairs and the SABC's africa and political editor.
