The SABC is working on 9 brand-new TV channels to add to SABC1, SABC2 and SABC3 so that the SABC eventually has 12 TV channels once South Africa's switch-over to digital terrestrial television (DTT) occurs.
Solly Mokoetle, group CEO of the SABC confirmed at the Commonwealth Broadcasters' Association conference that the SABC envisions 12 TV channels in total. Solly Mokoetle said the 9 new TV channels are essential for the SABC to fulfill its mandate as a public broadcaster, but is not yet sure of where the necessary funding for the 9 new TV channels will be coming from.
