EXCLUSIVE. Darren Kelfkens on that truly shocking moment in the Egoli finale when Joe returned.

You're reading it here first.

The biggest shocker in the final episode of Egoli on 2 March on M-Net wasn't how it ended with Louwna at the bottom of the staircase in the Edwards mansion - it's what happened halfway through the final episode . . . when Joe suddenly showed up!

It was the audible GASP heard through the country when a door opened and Joe was suddenly back - back in his old flat and seemingly back in Candy's life - and just as Rex was ready to propose to Candy. Now I can exclusively tell you how it happened!

At a recent swanky party I ended up at the bar right next to Darren Kelfkens who used to play Joe in Egoli, and we started talking.

So I was busy getting at drink at the bar at a recent swanky Johannesburg party when I bumped in the awesome Darren Kelfkens who played Joe in Egoli.
It was just after the final Egoli episode earlier this month on M-Net, in which Joe made his unexpected, and truly shocking return - probably the most shocking moment of all in the 22 minutes of the Egoli finale on M-Net.

I told him that I spoke to a lot of people after the episode to get their reaction. They were all unanimous: Joe's surprise return was by far what most people who watched the Egoli finale, said made them sit completely upright in shock.

The scene starts of course when Rex enters Candy's flat. In the last few episodes leading up to the Egoli finale, viewers saw Rex getting ready to propose to Candy and he had the ring in a box and everything. Rex asks Candy if she is ready to go out. She just stands there looking at him. Then she turns her head to the right, and then . . .

. . . the door opens, and Joe shows up! Back. Out of the blue.  Super shocking, huh!

''I enjoyed it tremendously,'' Darren Kelfkens told me. ''It was great to go back and do that scene. Everyone was so excited and we absolutely wanted to shock people and leave them breathless. We had to do it under utmost secrecy of course,'' he says. ''I went back to the studio and we did the little scene. The whole thing took about 20 minutes and then we we're all done. It was just great.''
