Safta awards: 7de Laan wins best soapie . . . but where's the cast?

You're reading it here first.

If you didn't see it (and how many would have . . . at 23:06 on Saturday night on SABC2?) I can tell you first what happened when 7de Laan was eventually announced as the ''best soapie'' at the 4th South African Film and Television Awards.

Vinette Ebrahim (earlier in the evening the Clive Morris Production made another on-screen spelling mistake by labelling her as ''Ibrahim'') who plays Charmaine in the popular SABC2 soapie, ran to the stage to collect the award. I happened however without any 7de Laan cast of course and Vinette Ebrahim being the sole recipient on stage. (Unlike when Isidingo won for best ensemble cast earlier during the night and multiple actors took to the stage.)

''I'm not sure what to say,'' said an elated Vinette Ebrahim. ''Most of my colleagues have left because they thought it wasn't ever going to happen. So, sjoe, the writers, the directors, the cast, Annie, Danie Odendaal: we did it, finally! Thank you Saftas!''
