MultiChoice's satellite expansion

MultiChoice who operates the DStv satellite subscription television service has signed a long term agreement with Intelsat for more satellite space. Basically it means even more broadcasting capacity for MultiChoice.

MultiChoice has an existing contract on the Intersat 7 satellite, and will get space on a new satellite Intersat 20 or IS-20, that will be launched in 2012.
''The growth our business is experiencing is fueled by strong content combined with the best technology,'' says Nico Meyer, MultiChoice's chief financial officer.

''For almost all of the past two decades, Intelsat has been one of the cornerstones of MultiChoice’s success. This contract provides us with the transmission services we require to grow our programming platform, expand our subscriber base and gives us the business continuity we need to provide the highest quality service to our subscribers for years to come.''

The IS-20 will improve the signal reception power for MultiChoice's more than 2,6 million DStv subscribers in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique.
